A Better Way to Approach Renovation and Design
Most contractors will ask what you want. If you know exactly what you want, that works fine. But most people starting a renovation project or addition project don’t have a fully formed plan. They know what isn’t working. They have a general sense of what they’re drawn to. And they need someone who can help close the gap between that and a finished space they’ll actually love.
That’s the problem Bennett Construction is built to solve.
Design and Construction Under One Roof
Josh Bennett has over 25 years of construction experience. His wife, Sharon Tate, is an accomplished interior designer who has worked on residential projects across the Ouray County area. Together, they’ve taken properties that most people wouldn’t look twice at and turned them into homes that draw attention for the right reasons.
The result of having both under one roof is a project where the design and the construction are always in conversation with each other. Materials are chosen with an understanding of how they’ll be built. Layouts are planned with an understanding of what’s structurally possible. Nothing gets designed in a vacuum and nothing gets built without a clear design intent behind it.
How the Process Works
Design services at BCC aren’t a separate engagement. They’re part of how we approach every project. Before construction begins, we work through the full vision with you: layout, flow, material selections, finishes, and how everything connects. By the time the first wall comes down, every decision has been made. There are no expensive mid-build changes because nothing was left unresolved at the start.
If you’ve been putting off a project because you’re not sure what you want it to look like, that’s exactly the right time to reach out.
Frequently Asked Questions5>
What does it mean to work with a design-build contractor versus hiring a designer and contractor separately?
When design and construction are managed by two different people, things get lost between them. The designer produces something the contractor has to interpret. The contractor makes field decisions the designer didn’t account for. By the time the project is done, the finished space is a negotiated version of the original vision, not the vision itself. When both happen under one roof, those gaps close. The person thinking through the design understands exactly what it takes to build it, and the contractor knows what the design is trying to achieve.
What does your design process look like?
We start by listening. We want to understand how you use the space, what frustrates you about it, and what you’re drawn to, even if you can’t fully articulate why yet. From there we work through layout, materials, finishes, and how everything connects before construction begins. Every decision gets made deliberately, up front, so there are no surprises once the build starts.
Do I need to have design ideas ready before I reach out?
No. If you knew exactly what you wanted, you probably wouldn’t need a designer. Come with the problem you’re trying to solve and we’ll work through the rest together.
Can you help with design even if construction is still a ways off?
Yes. Getting the design right takes time, and starting that conversation early is almost always a good idea. Reach out whenever you’re ready to start thinking through the project, even if the build itself is months away.
